06/12/2010--The 2010 MSUSBC Local Association Awards were presented during the Annual Meeting, held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Jefferson City, MO on June 5, 2010. Each year, the MSUSBC has awards available to Local Association members in the following categories: Male and Female Bowler of the Year, Male and Female Volunteer of the Year, Youth Male and Female Bowler of the Year, and Youth Male and Female Volunteer of the Year. Applications are typically due to the State Office by mid-October, and the decisions are made at the State Board meeting in mid-November. If no deserving applications are received, awards are not presented in that specific category. The 2010 Local Association Youth Volunteer of the Year is David Rohlmann, from St. Louis, MO. David will be a Senior at Oakville High School this coming year, and has bowled in the first two Missouri BPA High School Championships representing that school. His nomination as the Local Association Youth Volunteer of the Year was made by Gary Voss, his employer at West County Lanes in Ellisville. Gary tells us "His total love is this great sport of bowling. I have never seen a young person with this much drive for our game. You see it in his bowling, and in his dedication for his fellow bowler." David serves on both the St. Louis city and State USBC Youth Committees. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis USBC. He's a Junior Coach at West County Lanes. He volunteered to work the USBC/BPA Showcase in both 2008 and 2009, and assisted in setting up and working the trade show and exhibit areas. Battlefield Missouri's Alecia Lofton is the 2010 Local Association Youth Bowler of the Year. Alecia was nominated by Joy Hogan from Sunshine Lanes in Springfield, MO. Alecia had the High Series and High Average for Girls in the Greater Springfield USBC. Her high school team, the Kickapoo Chiefs, placed 2nd in the city, and qualified for the Missouri BPA High School Championships, where she was picked for the Missouri All-Star Team by competitive coaches. Also from Springfield, Madelyn Bailey is this year's Local Association Adult Volunteer of the Year. Madelyn has served her local association as a Director for 20 years, and as 2nd Vice President for one year. She's been a delegate to the State Convention for 13, and a National Delegate for 8 years. Madelyn has served willingly and professionally on many local committees, and on the Missouri State Credentials Committee several times, including as chair in 2008. She's been a part of promoting the sanctioning of leagues in Springfield, and has worked on fundraisers and promotions for the Springfield Youth. The Mineral Area USBC nominated this year's MSUSBC Adult Male Bowler of the Year, Jeremy Boyer. During the year covered by the award, Boyer tossed six 300's and 3 299's. He was named the Mineral Area USBC Bowler of the Year as well. Jeremy was a member of Miles Signs, the 1st Place Team in the Scratch Division of the 2009 MSUSBC Open Championships at West County Lanes. He had four Top 20 finishes in Midwest Region PBA Events, and he competed in the 2009 US Open, the 2009 PBA Tour Trials, and the 2009 PBA Regional Players Championships. He currently averages close to 230 composite in Mineral Area leagues. Springfield Missouri's Chris Swain is the 2010 MSUSBC Adult Female Bowler of the Year. Chris was inducted into the Greater Springfield MO USBC Hall of Fame this year, so she's no stranger to bowling success over her career. She has the current Association Award for High Average for Females with a 209. This year, she had games of 298, 289, and 279, along with three 700+ series'. In her Association Tournament, she won both the Scratch and Handicap All-Events titles, and recorded the High Scratch Tournament Series. Unfortunately, Chris was unable to attend the meeting and accept her award. The Missouri USBC encourages applicants for all of these awards every year. We're certain that there are deserving candidates out there who never get considered because of the lack of awareness. Generally, the applications for these awards are due to the State Association around the middle of October. Talk them up during your local association meetings, and recognize your local bowlers. Congratulations to all of this year's Local Association Award Winners!
